The best thing to drink is water because it doesn’t contain calories and it has zero sugar. I always recommend using a hiking daypack that has water bladder attachments so that you can drink while on the move. Hydration packs are easy to use and keep you hydrated while hiking. You can even add a mixture of Potassium and other minerals to your water such as Gatorade Zero hydration packets.

Be Prepared for Weather Changes.

You should also pack extra clothing layers to protect yourself against unexpected weather changes. Bring rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, and other supplies to ensure you stay comfortable and safe. If you’re planning on spending the night outdoors, make sure you bring a tent, sleeping bag, and ground coverings. Also, if you’re going to be hiking during the winter months, make sure you wear appropriate footwear.

I recommend layering your hiking clothes so that you can easily add or subtract clothes as the weather changes. I’ve been caught on hiking trails without proper winter clothing and had to suffer for hours until I was able to make it back to camp. You also want to rainproof your hiking backpack and your clothes. Many backpacks have a layer of waterproof material to protect your gear. If not, you can easily find backpack covers that will keep your clothes and food dry. I always carry a thin rain jacket just in case. You can attach it to your backpack or wear it around your waist.
